Band Tour to Paris
Another incredible tour was surely the highlight of our schooling year, in a sensational set of performances across the English Channel. The tour saw us feature in the centre of Paris in Luxembourg gardens and also in Disneyland Paris. The first day of our outstanding three day tour had to be the most exciting and also the most unanimated, at least for the first 9 hours, as we set off at midnight for an extensive 14 hour road trip that felt like a decade! The bus parted with us once we had reached the centre of Paris at Luxembourg Gardens, shortly after closely passing prestigious tourist attractions and landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, the Arc De Triomphe and Notre Dame. After having viewed the incredible beauty of Luxembourg Gardens, it was time for us to showcase our musical talents on the main bandstand in the centre of the park. We aquired a huge audience of people from the park, all gathered around listening to our set - mainly made up of classic Disney hits but also featuring some internationally famous pop and rock anthems from popular divas such as Tina Turner and Lady Gaga. Our night's stay had a mellow, laid back vibe, allowing us to recover from the frantic but fantastic day we'd under gone in Paris and also allowing us to prepare for our forthcoming Disneyland Paris gig the following day. Tuesday saw us play on the Metropolis stage, in Disneyland in front of a welcoming crowd of morning visitors to the park. We played the same set of fantastic pieces as the previous day, which proved to be a huge hit with the park visitors. The rest of the day allowed us to visit the park, going on whatever rides we wished - the highlight of this part of the day however must have been taking Ben Vincent - Musical Director of the band - onto Space Mountain - a fast moving roller coaster that loops through a maze of twisting track in the darkness of a pitch-black dome. The superb day was followed by a day of travelling home, during which an appropriate string of classic Disney movies were shown on the bus television, ranging from the Hunchback of Notre Dame to Aristocats. The outstanding tour was an incredible experience for all of us in the band, as we played in front of some amazing crowds in some unique and wonderous settings. After everything that we'd seen and done over the three day tour, there's only one word to describe it. Phenomenal!
